The Amazon Security organization is solving interesting problems across a wide range of businesses, from protecting AWS hardware to securing Kuiper satellites to end-point protection in Whole Foods around the world. In this role, you are the lead architects for the biggest and most complex security projects. You will own and push the strategic security roadmap for your department and have a strong vision for where the organization should go. Principal Security Engineers ensure Amazon is leading the industry in building and providing the best in class security solutions, both to our customers, and protecting our organization, information, and data.
Key job responsibilities
Principal Security Engineer’s at Amazon have broad experience solving complex and highly exposed cyber security issues, as well as leading teams across security disciplines including penetration testing, security operations, encryption, or identity and access management. They need a deep understanding of the inner workings of the security department’s software and how these applications are effective against external threats, both for Amazon and our external customers. They are “the point of contact” for various external customers when it comes to information security matters. A Principal Security Engineer can answer questions like “how are our customers protected by adversary threats, and how do we continue to research and modernized our efforts against these potential coercions.”
10 + years of experience in identifying security issues and risks, and developing mitigation plans
Deep hands-on technical expertise in at least two of the following areas: network security, embedded/hardware security, cryptography, web and network protocols, data structures and algorithms, software development, threat modeling, pen tests, or vulnerability assessments

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $146,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $218,100/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
