SALARY: £86,964 - £102,310
LOCATION: Edinburgh or Leeds
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
About this opportunity
Working as part of the Modern Workplace Technology organisation, the Virtualisation Engineering Lead is responsible for vision, strategy, engineering, and operational support for the organisations Virtual Desktop & Virtual Application capabilities.
This is a senior leadership level role and will blend both deep domain & technical expertise with great passion for coaching and developing people in a “player-coach” model including advocation for team wellbeing.
You will lead a team in this role, and you'll need to:
Focus on your team to ensure they have the appropriate training in our methodologies and understand their role in the organisation.
Coach and mentor others throughout the organisation, taking responsibility for development of self and others, actively seeking and providing feedback.
Develop and deliver a plan for a specific area of responsibility by managing others.
Set objectives and take responsibility for implementing team performance management systems with guidance from senior colleagues.
Specific activities will include:
Managing the development, delivery & continual improvement of the Azure Virtual Desktop personal & multi-session products.
Ensuring the Azure Virtual Desktop offerings meet the experience, performance, security and scalability needs of the organisation
Championing a DevOps/SRE approach, engineering products & driving an automation first agenda embracing Infrastructure as code principles to achieve consistent delivery
Contributes to defining roadmaps and strategies for technologies, tools and architectures
Manages definition, prioritisation & delivery of the Virtualization product backlog.
Work with stakeholders including Modern Workplace Product Owners & Business lines to ensure technologies align to our IT and Business strategies.
Ensures the delivery organisation is properly resourced with appropriate planning for growth, and all the delivery teams have been trained in appropriate methodologies and understand their role
Works closely with our Compliance, Legal and Cyber teams to ensure products & services comply with the regulatory framework.
Ensures suppliers are delivering required levels of service while reporting to senior colleagues.
Develops innovative solutions by integrating and analysing complex and diverse information sources.

What you’ll need
Extensive Experience of Infrastructure Engineering & Operations of M365, Device Management & Virtualisation Technology including Azure Virtual Desktops & Azure Infrastructure
A good understanding of Infrastructure Automation including Terraform, Infrastructure as code, configuration as code.
Passionate about customer experience and outcomes driven by technology
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
And any experience of these would be really useful
A good understanding of Security & Compliance requirements in regulated environments
Experience of Architecture Design notes and Governance
PowerShell scripting for Azure administration and automation.
Experience with Bicep (or ARM templates) for defining and deploying Azure resources.
Strong understanding of networking, Active Directory, and Group Policy.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
